Baseball Falls to Massachusetts, 9-5, Sunday

AUBURNDALE, Fla.—The UMBC baseball team fell to Massachusetts, 9-5, Sunday morning in the third game of its Spring Break trip. With the loss, the Retrievers fell to 3-8, while UMass improved to 4-8.
Junior Michael Pesci (Parsippany, N.J./DePaul Catholic) led the Retriever bats with three hits, including a double and a triple, and three runs driven in.
UMBC hit three doubles in the ninth, including ones by senior Rich Conlon (Vienna, Va./James Madison), junior Brian Klukowicz (Clifton, N.J./St. Peter’s Prep) and Pesci to bring the deficit to four.
Freshman starter Jon Cohn (Scottsdale, Ariz./Notre Dame Prep) (0-2) took the loss, allowing four runs in three innings of work. UMass starter Dennis Torres (1-1) did not allow a run in five innings of work to earn the win.
The Retrievers return to action Monday when they face Dartmouth in the first game of a four-game series down in Florida at 12:00 p.m.
