Baseball Hosts America East Rival Albany in Four-Game Set This Weekend

BALTIMORE—The UMBC baseball team takes on America East foe Albany in a four-game series this weekend, starting with a doubleheader Saturday at 4 p.m. The action continues Sunday with another doubleheader at 1 p.m.
Albany’s News and Notes: The Great Danes come to Baltimore having split a four-game series with Stony Brook last weekend. Brian Bullard leads the Albany bats with a .396 batting average and is tied for the team lead with 22 RBI. Mike Tirri leads the team with four home runs. Dave Kubiak leads the pitching staff with a 2-3 record, 4.75 ERA with 39 strikeouts.
UMBC News and Notes: The Retrieviers dropped a three-game series at Binghamton this past weekend, but defeated Mount St. Mary’s, 13-7, Wednesday night. UMBC used an 11-run first inning and a triple play to lead them to victory. Junior Rick Phillips hit his third home run of the season. Sophomore Curtis Schickner leads the team with a .316 average while junior Casey Medairy is hitting .290. Junior Bryan Russo leads the team with four home runs and 22 RBI while hitting .292. Senior Ed Bach leads the pitching staff with three wins, while fellow senior Andrew Germuth leads the team with 34 strikeouts.
