Baseball Drops Doubleheader at Binghamton, 10-1 and 20-5
VESTAL, N.Y.—The UMBC baseball team dropped a doubleheader at Binghamton Saturday, 10-1 and 20-5, Saturday afternoon in Vestal, N.Y. With the losses, the Retrievers drop to 7-24 (3-6 America East), while the Bearcats improve to 15-17 (6-3 AEC).
In the first game, junior Casey Medairy (Elkridge, Md./Howard) scored an unearned run in the first inning, but the Bearcats used a three-run first and a four-run fourth to propel them to a 10-1 win.
Senior starter Andrew Germuth (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spalding/Mount St. Mary's) took the loss, falling to 1-4 on the season, after allowing five runs in two innings of work. Bearcat starter James Giulietti improved to 5-2 with the complete game.
In the second game, junior Rick Phillips (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) and sophomore Max Himmelstein (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) each had two RBI and two hits, including a home run, but Binghamton pounced for nine in the third on its way to a 20-5 victory.
Senior starter Kevin Clark (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield/Catonsville C.C.) (0-4) allowed five runs (three earned) in 2.1 innings of work, while Jay Lynch (2-4) took the win, allowing five in six innings.
The two teams are scheduled to finish the third game of the series Sunday at noon.
