Retriever Baseball Takes on Maryland Wednesday Evening

BALTIMORE—The UMBC baseball team returns home for the first time in 37 days to take on local rival Maryland at 6 p.m. at The Baseball Factory Field at UMBC. There will be free hot dogs, chips and sodas to all in attendance, while supplies last. UMBC News and Notes: Senior Ed Bach was named America East Pitcher of the Week last week after only allowing three hits in 9.1 innings last week with 10 strikeouts. Junior Bryan Russo leads the Retrievers with three home runs and 18 RBI, while sophomore Curtis Schickner continues to pace the lineup with a .353 average. UMBC took 3-of-4 at Hartford to open conference play this past weekend. It was the first opening conference series win for the Retrievers since 2001, when they took 2-of-3 from Wagner in the Northeast Conference.

 

Maryland News and Notes: The Terps come to Baltimore having won their last game, a 4-2 decision over Atlantic Coast Conference foe Boston College on Sunday. Maryland is led at the plate by Brandon Padula, who is batting .418 with three home runs and 24 RBI, while Matt Marquis leads the team with four long balls. Brett Harman leads the pitching staff with 57 K’s in 55.2 innings. John Dischert leads the Terps with a 1.88 ERA in 12 relief appearances and 32 strikeouts in 24 innings.
