ANNAPOLIS, Md.—The UMBC baseball team rallied after falling behind 3-0, but host Navy scored in the bottom of the ninth to prevail, 4-3, Sunday afternoon in Annapolis, Md.

UMBC (4-12) sophomore Sean Swetnam (Greenbelt, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt/George Mason) (0-1) pitched 6.1 innings of solid relief, but allowed a lead-off single to Kendall Bolt in the bottom of the ninth and Jonathan Berkowitz hit an RBI single to score pinch runner Andrew Hahn to give the Midshipmen (17-7) the win.

After falling behind 3-0 after two innings, sophomore Curtis Schickner (East Windsor, N.J./Lawrenceville Prep) and junior Rich Conlon (Vienna, Va./James Madison) hit RBI singles to cut the lead to one. Junior Rick Phillips (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) hit a single through the left side in the eighth to score Conlon to tie the game at three.

Senior starter Kevin Clark (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield/Catonsville C.C.) allowed three runs in two innings of work before Swetnam allowed just the one hit in the ninth.

Navy starter Wes Olson allowed two runs in five innings of work, wihle Drew Carlson (1-0) pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief for the win.

The Retrievers return to action Tuesday when they play at Mount St. Mary’s at 3:30 p.m.
