UMBC Baseball Falls in America East Finale at Vermont, 7-4, Monday

    Sophomore Rich Conlon had two hits Monday.

    BURLINGTON, Vt.The UMBC baseball team dropped its final America East game of the season at Vermont, 7-4, on Monday afternoon in Burlington, Vt. With the loss, the Retrievers fall to 9-35 on the season and finish 4-18 in conference action.

     

    After falling behind 2-1 after one inning, the Retrievers took the lead on a sophomore Rick Phillips (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) double that scored sophomore Rich Conlon (Vienna, Va./James Madison) and a freshman Curtis Schickner (East Windsor, N.J./Lawrenceville Prep) RBI single to make it 3-2. The Retrievers doubled the lead in the sixth on a Conlon RBI double that scored senior Tom Meaney (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem).

     

    The Catamounts captured the lead in the bottom of the sixth on a three-run home run by Mark Micowski. They extended their lead to three on a Justin Milo two-run double down the right field line.

     

    Sophomore starter Travis Pearson (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) allowed five runs in 5 and 2/3 innings, but took the loss to fall to 1-5. Tom Kelly (3-4) earned the win for Vermont, allowing four runs in 8 and 2/3 innings of work, while Greg Lutton earned his third save of the season.
