UMBC Baseball Drops Two at Vermont, 12-0 and 5-1, Sunday

BURLINGTON, Vt.—The UMBC dropped two games at America East foe Vermont Sunday, 12-0 and 5-1. With the losses the Retrievers fall to 9-34 overall and 4-17 in conference play.
In the first game, Vermont starter Keith Rakus pitched eight scoreless innings with six strikeouts, while the Retrievers committed six errors en route to a 12-0 Catamount win. Sophomore starter Austin Drewyer (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill) (2-5) took the loss after allowing five earned runs in five innings of work.
In the second game, senior Brad Brainer (Chester, Md./Kent Island/Chesapeake JC) led off the game with a double and scored on a senior Tom Meaney (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem) to take a 1-0 lead, but the Catamounts scored four in the fifth to propel them to a 5-1 win.
Vermont starter Joe Sarafin allowed just three hits on his way to a complete game win. Junior Kevin Clark (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield/Catonsville C.C.) (3-4) struck out eight, but allowed five hits in five innings of work to take the loss.
The Retrievers return to action Monday for their final America East game of the season against Vermont at noon.
