Retriever Baseball Hosts Binghamton in Final Home America East Series of Season This Weekend

BALTIMOREThe UMBC baseball team concludes its home America East schedule this weekend, when it plays host to Binghamton on Saturday and Sunday. The doubleheader is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday and noon on Sunday. In between the two games on Sunday, UMBC will recognize the seven Retriever seniors, who will be playing in their final home conference series, including Dan Blewitt, Brad Brainer, Tom Meaney, Ryan Morse, Wink Nolan, Shawn Retz and Dave Warrenfeltz.

 

Scouting the Bearcats:

Corey Taylor leads the Binghamton offense, hitting .364 with 11 home runs and 40 RBIon the season. Murphy Smith leads the pitching staff with a 6-1 record with 51 strikeouts and a 2.50 ERAin 57.2 innings pitched. Binghamton as a team is batting .315 with 34 home runs and has a team ERA of 4.77 with 198 strikeouts.

 

UMBCDawg Bites:

The Retrievers come into tonight’s game after winning four out of their last six games, including 3-of-4 from America East rival Hartford. Freshman Max Himmelstein was named America East Rookie of the Week after hitting .472 with eight RBI on the week. He hit his first career grand slam on Sunday and has a six-game hitting streak. Seniors Shawn Retz and Tom Meaney combined for five home runs and 12 extra-base hits last week in the middle of the lineup. Junior Kevin Clark pitched his first complete game of the season last Sunday and now leads the team with three wins.
