UMBC Baseball Takes on Hartford in America East Series This Weekend
BALTIMORE—The UMBC baseball team returns to America East action Saturday and Sunday in a four-game series against Hartford at The Baseball Factory Field at UMBC. Saturday’s doubleheader is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. while Sunday’s action starts at 2:30 p.m.
Scouting the Hawks:
Hartford comes to town, winning three out of their last four games. Mike Amendola leads the team with a .416 batting average. Andy Drexel leads the Hawks with four home runs and 31 RBI. Weston Szymanski leads the pitching staff with 22 strikeouts, while Simon Kudernatsch and Cory Beahm lead with two wins each.
UMBC Dawg Bites:
The Retrievers come into the weekend after a 9-7 win at Georgetown on Tuesday night. Senior Shawn Retz leads the team with a .412 batting average and seven home runs. Fellow senior Tom Meaney leads the team with 30 RBI. Senior Brad Brainer is having an excellent year in the lead-off spot with a .357 average with 30 runs scored and 10 stolen bases. Sophomore Austin Drewyer leads the pitching staff with 32 strikeouts, while junior transfer Kevin Clark leads the team with two wins in addition to winning America East Pitcher of the Week, earlier in the year.
