Retriever Baseball Falls to #4 Miami, 11-1, Wednesday Night

CORAL GABLES, Fla.—The UMBC baseball team fell to #4 Miami, 11-1, Wednesday night in Coral Gables, Fla. The Hurricanes (16-3) scored eight runs in the first two innings as the Retrievers dropped to 2-7 on the season.

 

Sophomore Bryan Russo (Westbury, N.Y./Clarke) provided the only run of the day for UMBC, hitting his fifth home run of the season in the fifth inning off Miami starter Jason Santana. Santana (3-0) allowed only three hits to earn the win.

 

UMBC starter Ed Bach (Columbia, Md./Atholton) (0-3) gave up nine runs (four earned) in four innings, while sophomore Travis Pearson (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) allowed only one run in three innings of relief.

 

The Retrievers face NJIT and North Dakota State Thursday in West Palm Beach, Fla. at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.
