BASEBALLS FALLS TO MARYLAND, 18-2

The visiting Maryland Terrapins (29-19) pounded out 23 hits en-route to an easy, 18-2 victory over UMBC (26-17), Wednesday at Alumni Field.Maryland's first two batters, left fielder Daryl Whitmer and right fielder Matt Swope (2 doubles) combined to go 9-for-12 with six runs batted in. Johhny Bass added a pinch-hit grand slam in the ninth inning.UMBC freshman right-hander Zach Clark (6-3) allowed seven earned runs in just 2 2/3 innings to suffer the loss. FR Brooks Norris pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings to earn the victory for Maryland.Senior center fielder John Shuler went 3-for-5 to lead the UMBC offense.
