Towson, Md. - Senior third baseman Scott Bacon (Elkton H.S./Elkton, Md.) hit two home runs and drove in four runs as Towson University (17-25-1) ended its six-game losing streak with a 12-7 victory over the University of Maryland Baltimore County (26-16) at Schuerholz Park on Tuesday afternoon. The win was just Towson's second victory in its last 14 games and ended UMBC's three-game winning streak. The victory also enabled the Tigers to avenge an 8-0 loss at UMBC last month.Bacon, who had three hits and scored three runs, moved into second place on Towson's career list of RBI leaders. Later in the inning, senior Jared Boyd (Perth Amboy, N.J.) doubled to left center field and scored an unearned run on a throwing error by McKenna. It was the 27th double of the season, a new single-season school record. In the sixth inning, the Retrievers loaded the bases with one out. However, junior righthander Ray Sauser (Arch. Spalding H.S./Pasadena, Md.) came out of the bullpen to strike out junior Joe Muscillo (Long Branch, N.J.) and senior John Shuler (Perryville, Md.) to escape the jam.In their half of the sixth inning, the Tigers erupted for eight runs on six hits to take a 12-2 lead. Marcozzi and McKenna each had RBI singles to start the rally. Bacon's two-run double to centerfield gave Towson an 8-2 lead. After scoring two runs without a hit in the seventh inning, the Retrievers pulled to with 12-7 in the eighth inning on a bases-loaded double by Boyd.Freshman righthander Rafe Bridges (Westminster H.S./Westminster, Md.) earned his third win of the season for the Tigers.
