Head coach John Jancuska and the Retrievers are making their first-ever trip to the America East Conference Tournament.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—The UMBC baseball team, which is making its first-ever trip to the America East Conference Tournament, has earned a No. 3 seed with a final 13-11 conference record and will take on No. 2 Stony Brook on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. at the Farmingdale State College in Farmingdale, N.Y.

The Seawolves are hosting the tournament for the second straight year, while the Retrievers, who finished with a 21-27 regular season record, are joining the four-team conference field for the first time since joining the league for the 2004 season.

The 21 wins in a season marks the first time since 2003 that the Retrievers notched over 20 wins and it is the 19th occasion that head coach John Jancuska has seen 20 wins in a season since taking the helm of the Retrievers in 1978.

The Retrievers and Seawolves split the regular season series earlier this month as the Retrievers traveled to Stony Brook, N.Y. and split a doubleheader on May 10 before clinching a spot in the America East Conference Tournament with a 7-4, eight-inning win on May 11.

Binghamton and Vermont are the No. 1 and No. 4 seeds, respectively, and will kick off tournament action on Thursday with a 3:05 p.m. contest.  Friday’s action will see the winners and losers of each game face each other, while Saturday’s first game will pit the 1-1 teams against each other, with the two remaining teams competing for the conference title in the nightcap.  If necessary, a seventh game will take place on Sunday at 12:05 p.m.

The winner of the 2008 America East Baseball Championship will receive the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Baseball Championship.

Tickets for each day of the championship cost $7 for adults and $2 for children under 14 and students with valid America East school IDs.  Ticket information is available at the Stony Brook ticketing website, which can be reached by clicking the link above.
