ERIC BUTKIEWICZ NAMED NEC BASEBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Butkiewicz follows teammate Zach Clark (a two-time winner) to become the third straight UMBC pitcher to garner NEC Rookie of the Week honors. Butkiewicz did not allow an earned run over seven innings to give the Retrievers a key series win with a 4-1 victory over Central Connecticut State on Sunday. He scattered seven hits and struck out five to improve to 5-1 on the season. The Plainville, CT native has combined with fellow freshman Clark to post a 10-3 record and give UMBC on one of the top starting rotations in the conference along with sophomore Joe Wilson, who is 6-2.
