UMBC Baseball Gives Up 5-1 Lead, Edged By Maryland, 6-5

Bill Rice tallied the game-winning, bases-clearing double for the Terps in the seventh as a pinch-hitter and saw just one at-bat in the game, while Kevin Biringer (2-1) earned the win after pitching four innings in relief and letting in just one run on four hits while fanning four.
The Terps got on the board first thanks to an RBI single by Nick Jowers, but the Retrievers quickly took control as they evened the score in the top of the second with an RBI single by Retz and then built a three-run lead after the third.
Junior Tom Meaney (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem) started the scoring off for the Retrievers as he tallied an RBI thanks to a Terrapin error with the bases loaded, junior Scott Peddicord (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) added another run with a sacrifice fly and yet another Terp error and a single by Retz brought in the third Retriever score of the inning as they took a 4-1 lead.

The Retrievers return to action this weekend when they host Longwood in a three-game series beginning with a 6:00 p.m. contest on Friday night.
