BASEBALL NOTCHES EXCITING NEC WIN OVER MOUNT ST. MARY'S

UMBC junior third baseman Brad Glascock's no-out, bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Retrievers (17-11, 9-3 NEC) a 7-6 victory over Northeast Conference rival Mount St. Mary's (9-22, 5-7 NEC), Wednesday afternoon at UMBC's Alumni Field.The Retrievers trailed 5-2 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning but scored four unearned runs off Mount reliever Brandon Woodward to grab a 6-5 advantage. UMBC FR right fielder Jonathan Morgia blooped a three-run single down the right field line with two outs to nod the score at 5-5, and sophomore second baseman followed with an RBI triple off the right field fence.The Mount tied the game at 6-6 in the top of the ninth inning as center fielder Michael Freundel singled in shortstop Jamion Christian, who led off the frame with a double.Mount starter Brian Santo took a perfect game into the fifth inning before UMBC senior first baseman Greg Deboy broke it up with a single to right. Santo allowed no earned runs and just two hits in 6.0 inning of work.Freshman Zach Clark (4-2) earned the victory as he came on in the ninth inning and allowed one hit and no runs. Woodard (0-6) suffered the defeat for Mount St. Mary's.Mount third baseman Burt Stormes hit a pair of homers in a losing cause. Morgia drove in a career-high 4 runs and added a pair of hits, while Deboy and Carpenter each had two hits.
