UMBC Baseball Signs Seven Players to National Letters of Intent

UMBC baseball head coach John Jancuska will welcome seven new players for the 2008-09 season.

BALTIMORE—UMBC head baseball coach John Jancuska announced that seven players—Max Himmelstein, Justin Lamborn, Andy Smietana, Luke DiBlasi, Remy Cohen, Josh Dick, and Steve Miller—have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Retrievers for the 2008-09 season.

 

Himmelstein, a 6-foot-2, 215 pound catcher from Moorestown, N.J., plays for Moorestown High School where he helped the Quakers to the 2006 South Jersey Group III Championship and a semi-final finish in the 2007 Central Jersey Group III tournament.  Himmelstein was named All-South Jersey Group III in 2007 and was also a part of the Carpenter Cup team.

 

Lamborn, a 5-foot-10, 175 pound infielder from Glen Mills, Pa., plays for Garnet Valley High School as well the Maple Zone Diamonds 17U team.  Lamborn was named to the 2007 NABF World Series All-Tournament team for his performance with the Diamonds and also received 2007 Southern Chester County League All-Star Honorable Mention accolades for Garnet Valley.

 

Smietana, a 5-foot-10, 165 pound infielder from Bethel, Conn., earned the 2007 SWC Colonial Division Honorable Mention while playing with Bethel High School and Miller, a 6-foot-1, 190 pound right-hander from Newark, Del. was named Second-Team All-State for his outstanding performance with Dickinson High School.

 

Cohen, a 6-foot-5, 170 pound left-hander who hails from Atlantic Highlands, N.J., was part of the 2007 Monmouth County Tournament Champion Christian Brothers Academy team that also finished as the runners-up in the 2007 South-A Parochial division, while DiBlasi, a 5-ffot-11, 170 pound lefty from Pleasant Valley, N.Y., was part of the Arlington Admirals team that won the 2007 Section 1 I-C League Championship.

 

Dick, a 6-foot-3, 200 pound left-hander from Cross Junction, Virginia helped James Wood High School to the 2007 Northwestern District Championship and was also named All-Northwestern District First Team for his efforts.
