BASEBALL FALLS TO GEORGE MASON, 9-1

    Baltimore, MD - - -George Mason freshman southpaw Jake Glanzmann allowed just 6 hits and no earned runs in 8.0 innings of work as the visiting Patriots defeated UMBC, 9-1, at UMBC Alumni Field on Tuesday afternoon.George Mason (13-15), who has now won six straight contests, scored all the runs they would need in the top of the third inning, as they pushed three runs across off UMBC starter Matt Farina. DH Adam Shorts led off the frame with his third homer of the season and the Patriots added a run on a throwing error by Farina and an RBI groundout by left fielder Evan Howard.The Patriots added two runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth inning to build a 9-0 advantage. UMBC (11-10) scored their lone run in the bottom of the sixth inning as junior third baseman Brad Glascock delivered a two-out RBI single.Glanzmann (3-1) fanned four Retrievers and walked only two. Farina allowed six earned runs in 4.1 innings to fall to 1-1.George Mason third baseman Bruce Baldwin led all players with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate. Glascock led UMBC with two hits.
