BASEBALL COMPLETES THREE-GAME SWEEP OF SACRED HEART

Baltimore, MD - - - The host UMBC Retrievers (11-9, 4-2 NEC) completed a three-game sweep of Northeast Conference rival Sacred Heart (6-14, 2-4 NEC), defeating the Pioneers 9-2 this afternoon at Alumni Field.Freshman Eric Butkiewicz pitched a complete-game to improve to 3-1 on the season. The right-hander allowed two earned runs and scattered eight hits. Pioneers' lefty Eric Bushor allowed seven earned runs and 11 hits in just 2.1 innings to fall to 0-4 on the season. Sacred Heart center fielder Matt Lemanczyk led off the game with his second homer of the season, but UMBC's first five batters all recorded hits as the Retrievers scored four runs on 6 hits in the bottom of the first inning to grab a 4-1 advantage. UMBC scored two more runs in the second, including a lead-off homer by senior center fielder John Shuler, his third of the season. The Retrievers added a run in the third and two more in the seventh to put the game away.Shuler turned in a perfect day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a double and a homer. Senior shortstop Jared Boyd (2 doubles, 2 RBI's) and senior first baseman Greg Deboy each added three hits. Junior third baseman Brad Glascock added a pair of RBI's.
