Former UMBC Baseball Player Mike Keller Honored; Navy Game Cancelled
4/10/2007
BALTIMORE--The UMBC baseball contest against the U.S. Naval Academy scheduled for Tuesday night was cancelled after a 25-minute mechanical delay.
The lights at The Baseball Factory Field at UMBC would not turn, forcing the teams to cancel the night's competition due to darkness. There is no scheduled make-up date for the game.
Former UMBC baseball player and Lance Corporal Mike Keller of the United States Marine Corps was honored in a pre-game ceremony for his contributions to the UMBC baseball program and athletics department.
Keller served as the Community Outreach Coordinator for the Athletics Department during this past year and will be reporting for duty at Fort Lee, Va. on April 22 before shipping out to Kuwait in mid-to-late July and then finally to Iraq.
Head coach John Jancuska presented Keller with a UMBC baseball jacket and hat.
The Retrievers will continue competition this weekend when they travel to Maine for a four-game series beginning with a 5:00 p.m. contest on Friday.
