Senior Mike Scheffel Named America East Baseball Player of the Week

BOSTON--UMBC baseball senior Mike Scheffel has been named the Ameica East Conference Player of the Week, for the week ending Sunday, March 18, the conference announced Monday.
Scheffel is the second Retriever to pick up a weekly conference award, after sophomore left-hander Ed Bach was named the Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 11.
Scheffel led the Retrievers as they went 2-0 due to postponements last week, with wins over Delaware and Buffalo.
He battted .700 in the two contests, including a 5-for-5 performance on Wednesday in the 6-2 win over Buffalo. During that game, Scheffel belted three doubles, scored twice, and added one RBI.
Scheffel currently leads the Retrievers in runs scored with 13, while he is second in total hits with 15, four of them doubles, three of which came from last week’s games.
