BASEBALL FALLS TO MARYLAND, 10-4

The Maryland Terrapins exploded for seven runs in the first inning to cruise to a 10-4 victory over the Retrievers today at Shipley Field in College Park, MD.Maryland (15-5, 0-3 ACC) got an early jump after senior Matt Swope led off with a double to left center. A single by sophomore Anthony Buffone would send Swope home before shortstop John McCurdy cleared the bases with a homerun to right center. The Terrapins would get four more runs on five hits off Retriever starter Tony Watkins before UMBC could close out the inning.The Retriever offense was led by Jared Boyd, who got UMBC (6-7, 0-0 NEC) on the board in the fifth inning with a double, allowing Derrick Fritz and Rick Guarno to score. UMBC added two more runs after a solo homerun from first baseman Greg Deboy in the eight, and an RBI single by Scott Kosmicky in the ninth.
