Bach Named America East Pitcher of the Week

Sophomore Ed Bach pitched eight scoreless innings on Saturday to earn America East Conference honors.

BOSTON—UMBC Baseball sophomore Ed Bach has been named the America East Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 11, the conference announced today.

 

Bach started the second game of a three-game series against the Wagner Seahawks on Saturday for the Retrievers, pitching eight scoreless innings and improving to 1-1 on the season.  The shutout was Bach’s first in his career at UMBC.

 

The southpaw allowed just four hits and struck out eight, holding his opponents to a .143 batting average.

 

Bach now holds a team-leading 2.65 ERA, giving up just five runs and 15 hits in 17.0 innings pitched with an overall opposing batting average of .242.

 

Other weekly award winners were Maine’s Billy Cather, who received Player of the Week honors, and Stony Brook’s Michael Stephan who was named Rookie of the Week.
