BALTIMORE--The UMBC Baseball team picked up its second win of the weekend, blanking the Wagner Seahawks, 5-0, in the second game of the three-game series. With the win, the Retrievers improve to 3-5 and 3-2 at home, while the Seahawks drop to 1-4.

Senior Steve Bowen led the Retrievers, going 2-for-3 on the day with two runs scored and one RBI.

Sophomore left-hander Ed Bach (1-1) picked up the win for UMBC, going 8.0 innings and striking out eight, with just four hits allowed.

The Seahawks were led by Joe DiGeronimo, who went 2-for-4, while right-hander Kyle Morrison (0-2) recorded the loss, letting up five runs, six hits, and striking out six in 8.0 innings pitched.

Bach retired four Seahawks in the first, allowing one hit and striking out one to end the inning before the Retrievers jumped to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the inning off a Seahawk error, sophomore Scott Peddicord two-run double that scored senior Steve Gale and junior Joe Fowler, a Bowen double to score Peddicord, and a sophomore Tom Meaney single up the middle to plate Bowen.

Both teams saw a lack of scoring until the bottom of the fourth, when UMBC added the fifth and final run of the game, off senior Isaac Friedel’s single to right center to bring Bowen in for the score to give the Retrievers a 5-0 lead.

The Retrievers face the Seahawks in the finale of the three-game series on Sunday at The Baseball Factory Field at UMBC at 3:00 p.m.
