UMBC BASEBALL NOTEBOOK: ZACH CLARK CONTINUES TO SHINE IN MINOR LEAGUES

Former UMBC pitcher Zach Clark (Newarak, Del.) continues to shine for the Bluefield Orioles as the right handed pitcher holds a 2-2 record and 0.56 ERA in four starts. Clark has pitched 16.0 innings with 18 strikeouts and allowed a mere one earned run. Clark, who was a fifth-year senior at UMBC this past spring, signed with the Baltimore Orioles organization in June after completion of his senior year and was assigned to the Appalachian League affiliate.
Clark in his two losses has allowed five total runs, however, only one of those runs was earned. In his two wins, he has pitched 10.0 scoreless innings and allowed five hits with 11 strikeouts. In his last win, he pitched 5.0 innings with nine strikeouts, culminating in a 4-0 win over Princeton.
Clark as of July 13, 2006, ranks second in ERA in the Appalachian League and 12th in strikeouts.
