GEORGE WASHINGTON SWEEPS SEASON SERIES WITH 12-4 WIN TUESDAY NIGHT OVER UMBC BASEBALL

The Colonials scored runs in four of the first six innings, including a three-run first and four-run fifth to jump out to a 10-3 lead by the end of the sixth inning. The Colonials tallied runs in the first on a wild pitch, RBI double by Tom Shanley and an RBI single by Matt Owens.
In the fifth, the Colonials utilized three Retriever errors, scoring four runs in the inning. Owens recorded another RBI single while two runs scored on a throwing error as Pat Lehman reached first base and another came in on single by Tim Reeves.
Lead off triples by Brian Moran and Joe Fowler led to solo runs in the first and fourth innings for UMBC, respectively. Fowler hit a solo home run in the sixth inning for his team-high seventh on the season.
The Colonials tacked on two runs in the top of the seventh inning as Doug Eizen hit a two-run home run to left field. UMBC added a run in the bottom of the eighth on a RBI single by Chris Cerullo.
Shanley, Owens and Eizen each had two RBI and two runs scored while recording a multi-hit game to lead George Washington. Pat Lehman (1-2) went the first 7.0 innings allowing three runs on six hits while striking out eight. Justin Prinstein finished the final two innings for the Colonials.
Dan Blewitt (1-2) took the loss for UMBC, going the first 3.0 innings, allowing four runs on six hits with five strike outs. UMBC used six pitchers in the game. Fowler and Scott Peddicord each had two hits in the game.
