ARMY TOPS UMBC BASEBALL, 10-4

Steve Bowen was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI on Saturday.

Baltimore, Md. -  The UMBC baseball team (2-2) dropped a 10-4 decision to Army (1-6) in non-conference baseball action on Saturday at the Baseball Factory Field at UMBC.  Army tallied the first five runs of the game and tacked on five more in the seventh and eighth innings to seal the win. 

 

Army scored single runs in the third and fourth innings taking a 2-0 advantage into the fifth inning.  After giving up a single up the middle to Milan Dinga, Chris Simmons connected on a shot over the center field fence for a two-run home run.  Cole White on the next pitch hit a home run over the left center field fence for a solo shot giving the Black Knights a 5-0 lead. 

 

UMBC responded for the first time in the bottom of the sixth as Joe Fowler doubled down the left field line with one out, scoring on the hit after a throwing error by the left fielder for Army.  UMBC tagged on a second run in the inning on doubles by Brian Moran and Steve Bowen. 

 

Army opened the game back up with two runs in the seventh and three in the eighth inning.  With bases loaded and two outs, White cleared the base paths with a double.  White finished 3-for-4 in the game with four RBI and two runs scored.  Simmons, batting ahead of White in the order, went 1-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. 

 

UMBC was paced by Moran and Bowen each going 2-for-4 at the plate.  Steve Evans started for UMBC, going 6.0 innings and allowing five runs on nine hits with four strike outs.  Evans took the loss while Tyler Anderegg recorded the win for Army, going 5.2 innings and allowing two runs on five hits. 

 

The two teams will meet again on Sunday for a double header at 12 p.m.
