UMBC BASEBALL INKS THREE FOR 2007 SEASON

Baltimore, Md. – UMBC head coach John Jancuska announced the signing of three players to National Letters of Intent to play baseball for the Retrievers in 2007. Right handed pitcher Charlie Ellinger (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa), outfielder and left handed pitcher Geoff Lang (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) and power hitting catcher and third baseman Tate Swanson (Herndon, Va./Herndon) have all committed to start classes at UMBC in the fall of 2006.
Ellinger is a native of Massapequa, N.Y., where he established a 4-1 record in 2005 for Massapequa High School. Ellinger held a 1.65 ERA and struck out 42 batters in 33.0 innings pitched during his junior year. This past summer the right hander went 6-2 for the Long Island Titans club team. Ellinger struck out 64 batters in 50.0 innings pitch, recording a 2.15 ERA.
Lang hails from Pittsburgh, Pa., and will come to the Retrievers with a solid prep career both on the mound and in the field. A left handed hitting outfielder, Lange batted .350 his junior year, leading his North Allegheny High School team to a District Seven Championships. This past summer he played for the Pittsburgh Diamond Bulldogs, batting .425 and recording a 3-1 record on the mound with a 1.25 ERA.
Swanson is a product out of Herndon, Va., where he earned first team all-district and second team all-region honors for Herndon High School last year. A catcher and third baseman, Swanson has power from both sides of the plate as the switch hitter batted .375 during the 2005 season.
