UMBC SENIOR ZACH CLARK NAMED CAPTAIN FOR RETRIEVERS’ 2006 BASEBALL SQUAD

11/15/2005

Seniro Zach Clark has been named team captain for the 2006 season.

The UMBC baseball team announced that senior Zach Clark has been named the team’s captain for the 2006 season.  Clark returns for his final year as one of the top pitchers on the Retriever staff.  Clark is also expected to see plenty of time as a designated hitter or at first base.

Clark last season hit .297 in the Retriever lineup with a .381 slugging percentage and two homeruns.  During the off season Clark was named Co-MVP of the 2005 Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League Championship Series and was named to the all-league team as a right handed pitcher  after having a stellar season pitching for the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts.  Clark led the team with 54.0 innings pitched, allowing a mere six total runs and four earned runs.  Clark held opponents to a .228 batting average and struck out 23.

UMBC opens play on February 24th at William & Mary at 3 p.m.  The Retrievers will play a three-game series against William & Mary that opening weekend.
