UMBC BASEBALL’S KYLE WILDASIN AND JOE FOWLER EARN ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS

    Senior Kyle Wildasin was named to the America East All-Conference Second team.

    Boston, Mass. – The America East Conference announced on Wednesday that UMBC senior first baseman Kyle Wildasin (Hanover, Pa./Southwestern) and freshman Joe Fowler (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark’s) were named to the 2005 All-Conference second team.  Fowler also earned All-Rookie team accolades as the awards were announced at the annual awards banquet.

     

    Wildasin hit over .300 for the second consecutive season, leading the team in batting at .342.  Wildasin hit .380 in conference play, recording two homeruns, 20 runs scored and driving in 17.  On the mound, Wildasin held opponents to a mere allowing a mere three earned runs in the last 32.0 innings pitched, all mid-week starts.  Wildasin recorded 18 multi-hit games, recorded a 10 game hit streak and had a hit in 40-of-48 starts in the field. 

     

    Fowler led an impressive freshman class that racked up a conference best three different Rookie of the Week accolades and tied Maine with four total Rookie of the Week honors.  Fowler hit .265 on the year and ranked second on the team with 30 RBI in his rookie campaign.  The right handed hitting left fielder batted .356 in conference play, recording three doubles, one triple, two homeruns and 18 RBI.  Fowler led UMBC with five multi-RBI games.    

     

    Binghamton University won three of the four major awards handed out at the conference’s annual awards banquet Wednesday night. Junior third baseman Matthieu Bergeron took home the Len Harlow Award, given to the conference’s Player of the Year. Pitcher Scott Diamond was selected as the Rookie of the Year and head coach Tim Sinicki was selected as Coach of the Year. Sophomore hurler Adam Ottavino of Northeastern University was selected as the Pitcher of the Year.
