GEORGETOWN TOPS UMBC BASEBALL, 10-4, WEDNESDAY NIGHT

UMBC started to make a comeback as the Retrievers scored four of the next five runs. UMBC scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the third as Brian Moran knocked his second-consecutive double of the game and moved to third on a ground out by Mike Scheffel. Kyle Wildasin plated Moran with a sacrifice fly. The Retrievers added another run in the fourth with a sacrifice fly out to score Steve Russo.
Trailing 6-2, the Retrievers closed the gap to two as a two-out pinch hitting double by Joe Fowler scored Russo and Alex Laddbush.
UMBC trailed 6-4 heading into the ninth as back-to-back homeruns by the Hoyas sealed the Retrievers fate. Billy Quinn homered with one aboard and one out followed by a shot by Ryan Craft in the Hoyas’ next at bat.
Steve Evans took the loss for UMBC going 2.2 innings allowing five runs on four hits with four walks. Zach Clark and Blake Phipps each threw two innings with both recording four strikeouts.
Mike Halloran went 5.0 innings allowing two runs and five hits for the win.
Steve Russo went 4-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored. Russo doubled twice and singled twice for UMBC. Craft finished 3-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored for the Hoyas.
