SCHEFFEL’S TWO HOMERUNS STUNS MARYLAND AS UMBC BASEBALL TOPS TERPS 9-7 WEDNESDAY NIGHT

College Park, Md. – UMBC (6-13) sophomore Mike Scheffel (Westminster, Md./Westminster) hit two homeruns including a two-run shot in the top of the ninth inning to break a 7-7 tie as the Retrievers defeated the University of Maryland (14-17), 9-7, in non-conference baseball action on Wednesday night at Shipley Field. In the ninth Wildasin singled to lead off the inning and two batters later Scheffel lifted a shot over the left centerfield fence for the game-winning homerun.
Matt Maropis led the Terps with a 4-for-5 performance with three RBI. Seth Overby took the loss and falls to 0-1.
