GEORGE WASHINGTON UPENDS UMBC BASEBALL, 5-1
Eric Butkiewicz became UMBC's all-time leader in innings pitched on Wednesday.
The UMBC Retrievers (4-12) fell to George Washington (14-10) by a final of 5-1 in non-conference baseball action on Wednesday afternoon at
UMBC’s only offense came in the fifth inning as with two outs Brian Moran tripled prior to an error by the Colonials’ shortstop, allowing Moran to cross the plate.
Moran closed the gap to 4-1 as the Colonials scored one in the second, two in the third and one run in the fourth inning. Josh Goldberg recorded an RBI single in the second. The Colonials two runs in the third both came as unearned runs, as Tom Shanley and Ryan Roberson scored following UMBC’s lone error of the game.
In the fourth another RBI single came off the bat of Brad Rosenblat.
Dan Sullivan got the win for the Colonials, going 7.0 innings and allowing one run on seven hits. Sullivan moves to 3-3 while Butkiewicz falls to 1-4 on the year. Dan Blewett threw the eighth for UMBC, allowing no hits and striking out one.
UMBC returns to action on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Navy.
