UMBC BASEBALL CLAIMS SERIES OVER CANISIUS WITH 10-7 WIN ON SUNDAY

The UMBC Baseball team (2-5) defeated Canisius (1-5) by a final of 10-7 on Sunday afternoon at The Baseball Factory Field at UMBC. The Retrievers claimed the series finale and took the three-game weekend series, 2-1.
Joe Fowler jumped started the UMBC offense the first inning with a three-run homerun as the Retrievers jumped out to a 6-0 lead.
Canisius would come back to score five runs in the next two innings off UMBC starter Steve Evans. Evans went the first 3.0 innings allowing six hits and five runs.
UMBC added insurance runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings of the game and the combination of Bo Sauter and Blake Phipps threw the final six innings en route to the 10-7 win. Sauter went the fourth and fifth inning for UMBC while Phipps closed out the final four getting his first win of the year.
Joe Fowler went 2-for-5 in the game with two runs scored and three RBI. Kyle Wildasin extended his multi-hit steak to four games with a 2-for-5 performance, scoring a run and recording an RBI.
Michael Rees took the loss for Canisius going one inning allowing six runs and five hits. None of the runs in the first were earned as Canisius committed five errors in the first inning and eight in the game.
