UMBC BASEBALL ANNOUNCES ERIC BUTKIEWICZ AND KYLE WILDASIN AS 2005 CAPTAINS
Kyle Wildasin has been selected as a captain for the 2005 UMBC Baseball team.
Butkiewicz last season ranked third on the team in ERA and recorded 60 strike outs in 83.0 innings pitched, both team highs. A 6’4” right handed pitcher, Butkiewicz enters this season with a chance to become UMBC’s all-time leader in innings pitch, currently with 250.0 for his career, and in strikeouts with 175 career K’s. This past summer Butkiewicz played for the Peninsula Oilers in the prestigious Alaska Baseball Summer League, leading the Oilers in appearances with 23 and finishing with a 2.06 ERA and 29 K’s.
Wildasin finished last season with a .311 batting average, .522 slugging percentage and hit eight homeruns and 14 doubles. Wildasin also led the team in ERA on the mound at 4.32, recording four saves and made a team-high 24 appearances on the mound. Wildasin, 6’0”, set a school record with 27 appearances two year’s ago and has taken the mound 56 times in his collegiate career, ranking tied for fourth all-time.
