RETRIEVER BASEBALL DROPS TWO TO NORTHEASTERN ON SATURDAY

Boston, Mass. – The UMBC Retrievers (10-27, 3-8 AE) lost both ends of a doubleheader with Northeastern on Saturday afternoon at Friedman Diamond.  The Huskies took game one 4-1 and game two 8-0. 

 

Eric Butkiewicz started for the Retrievers in game one and threw 7.2 innings, allowing four runs on five hits and striking out three in the loss as he moves to 2-9 on the year.  Kyle Wildasin finished the game in relief for the Retrievers with a strikeout to end the eighth.

 

The Retrievers only run came in the fifth as Mike Sheffel hit an RBI single to drive in Kevin Brooks who led off the inning with a single.

 

Senior Jordan Thomson scattered eight hits en route to his fifth complete game of

the season for the Huskies, and senior Brad Czarnowski and junior Jeff Heriot had two hits apiece to lead NU to the 4-1 game one win.

 

The Huskies completed the doubleheader sweep with a shutout in game two.  Justin Hedrick gave up seven hits en route to his third complete game of the season, and junior Miguel Paquette, junior Tim Bush, freshman Dan Milano each drove in two runs for NU.

 

Blake Phipps took the loss in game two for the Retrievers.  Kyle Wildasin went 3-for-3 in game two and had a hit in game one as he has a hit in every conference game on the year a streak of 11 games and is batting .429 in league play.

 

The series concludes on Sunday at 1 p.m.
