BEARCATS COMPLETE SERIES SWEEP WITH 21-1 WIN OVER RETRIEVERS

Baltimore, Md. – The UMBC Retrievers (6-23, 1-5 AE) fell in the final game of a three game series to Binghamton (15-9,5-1 AE) by a final score of 21-1 in America East Conference baseball action on Sunday at The Baseball Factory Field at UMBC.  With the win the Bearcats sweep the weekend series.

 

Binghamton exploded for 14 runs in the top of the sixth inning to break the game wide open and take a 21-1 lead.  Brendan Hitchcock and Jay Balback led the way as Hitchcock went 4-for-6 from the plate with five RBI and Balback hit his fourth homerun in the last two days and scored four runs on the day. 

 

Zach Clark recorded two hits for the Retrievers going 2-for-4 from the plate and scoring a run.  Jon Pavlis took the loss falling to 1-7 on the year. 

 

Chris Darling picked up the win for the Bearcats despite not starting as the Bearcats staff held UMBC to five hits on the day.

 

The Retrievers return to action on Tuesday, April 20 when they host Navy in the Retrievers first ever home night game at 7 p.m. at The Baseball Factory Field at UMBC.
