PATRIOTS HAND RETRIEVER BASEBALL 15-3 LOSS

Fairfax, Va. -  The UMBC Retrievers (5-17) saw a 3-1 lead dissipate quickly as George Mason (19-9) scored 14 unanswered runs to take a 15-3 victory over the Retrievers at Spuhler Field on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference baseball action.  Kyle Wildasin recorded a RBI single as he extended his hit streak to 10 consecutive games. 

 

The Retrievers opened the first inning with four hits and two runs as Kevin Brooks after doubling scored on a Zach Clark RBI single and Chris Cerrullo, who singled in between Brooks and Clark, crossed the plate as Wildasin singled to left field for the RBI, his 16th of the season.

 

In the second Clark recorded his second RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly to plate Mike Sheffel, who singled to lead off the inning. 

 

In the first two innings the Retrievers tallied five hits but were held to four the rest of the game as the Patriots let loose an offensive fury in the third and seventh innings, scoring five runs on four hits in the third and six runs on four hits in the seventh inning.

 

Leading the way was Chris Looze with four RBI and a homerun and Jeff Palumbo with a 3-for-5 day with three runs scored and two RBI.  Jake Glanzmann pitched 6.0 innings allowing seven hits and three runs to get the win, his third of the season. 

 

Jon Pavlis started the game as the Retrievers used four pitchers on the mound.  Pavlis went 5.0 innings allowing eight runs on eight hits.   Pavlis took the loss and moves to 1-5 on the year. 

 

Wildasin was 1-for-3 with an RBI, Clark went 2-for-3 with a two RBI and Dan Carpenter was 2-for-4 from the plate.

 

The Retrievers take on Maryland on Wednesday, April 7 in Aberdeen, Md., at Ripken Stadium.
