Towson, Md. – The UMBC Retrievers (4-16) lost to the Towson Tigers (9-12), 10-2, in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday afternoon at Schuerholz Park.  The loss snaps the Retrievers two-game win streak.

The Retrievers tallied runs in the first and third inning as both runs came from Retriever second baseman Kevin Brooks (Gambrills, Md./Arundel).  Brooks led off the game with a double and moved to third as Retriever captain Dan Carpenter (Glen Burnie, Md./Old Mill) returned to the line up after missing a couple of weeks due to illness.  Zach Clark (Newark, Del./Newark) plated Brooks with a sacrifice fly out.

In the third Brooks led off with single and found his way around the base path, eventually crossing the plate on a Mike Orlando (Rochester, N.Y./W. Irondequoit) single.

Orlando went 3-for-4 from the plate on the day with an RBI while Brooks was 2-of-4 with two runs scored.  Clark went 1-for-3 with an RBI as well.

Eric Butkiewicz started for the Retrievers allowing five runs on seven hits.  Jon Pavlis relieved Butkiewicz, holding the Tigers scoreless for three consecutive innings until yielding runs in the sixth and seventh.  Blake Phipps finished the game for the Retrievers, pitching a perfect eighth inning.

The Tigers were led by Brian McKenna with three hits in five at bats and four RBI.  Starting pitcher Matt Holey went 7.0 innings to earn his first career collegiate win.
