MARYLAND OVERPOWERS UMBC BASEBALL, 21-4

    Baltimore, Md.Terrapin senior Anthony Buffone went 5-for-6 with seven RBI’s, four doubles, and a grand slam to lead Maryland (5-7) to a 21-4 win over UMBC (2-10) this afternoon at the Baseball Factory Field at UMBC.

     

    The Terps jumped out to an early lead, scoring three in the first behind a three-run homerun by sophomore Brian Jarosinski. With a 4-1 lead after two innings, Maryland batters exploded for 14 runs on 14 hits in the next four innings to obtain a comfortable 18-1 advantage. UMBC would add a run in the seventh and two more in the ninth, but the Terps would match that output to come away with a 21-4 victory.

     

    During the game, six different Terrapins hit a homerun, while as a team, Maryland collected 14 doubles.

     

    The Retrievers were led by sophomore Zach Clark, who went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a double, and senior Chris Becraft, who was 3-for-4 on the day.

     

    Both teams used five pitchers apiece, as Maryland starter Chris Bowen (1-0) earned his first win of the year, while UMBC starter Tom Ballenger fell to 0-2 on the season.
