Joe Michalski will enter his second year as an assistant coach for the Retrievers in 2008 after first joining the team for the 2007 season.
Michalski came to the Retrievers after spending one season with the Baltimore Orioles affilate, the Aberdeen Ironbirds. While with the Ironbirds, Michalski played in 23 games and batted .163 while also totaling one run, eight hits, one double, and six RBI.
Before joining the Ironbirds in 2006, Michalski was a four-year starter at George Washington, where he played catcher for the Colonials. Michalski played 192 career games for George Washington and helped lead the Colonials to an Atlantic-10 title in 2002, his freshman year. The catcher was named to the Atlantic-10 All-Championship Team in the same year and ranked second among GW underclassmen with a .318 average.
In Michalskiís second season he led the team and ranked fifth in home runs (10) in the Atlantic-10 while also recording a .477 slugging percentage.
Michalski finished his career at GW with a .260 batting average, as well as 95 runs, 144 hits, 26 doubles, 28 home runs, and 110 RBI.
A 2005 graduate of George Washington, Michalski earned a bachelorís degree in economics. He is currently pursuing a masterís degree in economics at UMBC and resides in Ellicott City, Md.
