2006:  Played in 10 games during the year, starting five… Two starts each came at right field and designated hitter, with one at first base… Recorded five hits, five runs, and four RBI’s for a .217 average during the season… Best performance was during the opening weekend, in the second game against William and Mary where he went 1-for-3 with two runs scored, two RBI’s, and one double.

 

2005:  Played in 20 games on the year with 10 starts… Four starts came at first base, four in left fiel,d one in right field and one as the DH… Batted .167 with three runs scored and five RBI… Recorded a five-game hit streak towards the latter part of the season… During that stretch put two multi-RBI games together… Went 1-for-3 with two runs driven in against Mount St. Mary’s… Went 2-for-4 with two more RBI in the third game against Northeastern… Batted .444 in five conference games played, recording four hits in nine at bats.  

 

2004:  Played in seven games before redshirting due to injury… Recorded hits in both games to open the season at Tulane… Went 2-for-5 with an RBI against Maryland in his final game of the year… Hit .207 with six hits, three RBI and two runs scored.

 

2003:  Started and played in 39 games… Hit .235 with 14 RBI and 32 hits… Doubled nine times, tripled once and hit a home run… Scored 14 runs and held a .338 slugging percentage.. Two of his nine doubles came at the expense of Wagner as he went 3-for-3 driving in a run and scoring two to lead UMBC past the Seahawks, 6-5... Tripled the next day in the first of two versus Wagner, going 1-for-3 with a run and two RBI in the Retrievers' 6-3 win... Had a big day in the second game of a twinbill with St. Francis (N.Y.), going 3-for-4 from the plate with two RBI and three runs scored in UMBC's 13-7 win.

 

Friedel's Background:  Capped off his senior year at St. Rose High School by leading his squad with a .485 batting average, hitting 10 doubles, three triples and 36 RBI en route to being named Player of the Year by The Wall Reporter/Asbury Park Press ... Set school records for career hits with 111 and in a season with 47... First-Team All-Shore Conference, All-County and First-Team All-State...Majoring in economics...  Is the only child to Dewey and Ronda Friedel... Born April 9, 1984.
