BALTIMORE – The UMBC baseball team capped its fall training session with two successful alumni events. After practicing from Sept. 13-Oct. 25, the team held its first annual golf outing on Oct. 26 at The Timbers at Troy, and then hosted an alumni game at the Baseball Factory Field during homecoming activities on Oct. 27.
“Overall, we had a good fall and got a lot accomplished,” said second-year head coach Bob Mumma. “The kids worked hard and we saw a lot of progress from start to finish that gets us excited for the spring.”
The golf outing played host to nearly 30 golfers, 16 of whom were UMBC baseball alums. The winning group consisted entirely of former Retrievers – Chris Yetter (’04), Matt Wiley (’02), Tony Watkins (’02), and David Dlugacz (’01).
“It was a great event and we had great weather, so we’re looking forward to this being an annual tradition for us,” Mumma said.
The next day, the Retrievers welcomed back a contingent of former players for the annual Alumni Game at the Baseball Factory Field.
UMBC opens the 2013 season at the Coastal Carolina Invitational on Mar. 1-3 at TicketReturn.com Field, home of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. In South Carolina, the Retrievers will take on N.C. State, West Virginia, and Indiana.
