Softball Announces Chance and Hall as Team Captains
“Day-in and day-out this fall, Caitlin and Taylor have led our team in various leadership and playing roles,” French said. “They are two solid returning starters who will each be expected to not only be leaders on the field, but core players on our club this spring. We are expecting both of them to have great seasons and get us back to the America East Championship as we try to win the league and make our way into the NCAA tournament.”
Chance, a second baseman, was one of three players to start all 50 games for the Retrievers in 2012. Last season, the Easton, Md., native ranked second on the team in runs scored (18), third in runs batted in (17), third in batting average (.266) and registered a .336 slugging percentage. Chance earned UMBC Retriever Classic All-Tournament honors after exploding for three hits in a 6-4 victory against Canisius, including her first career grand slam.Hall, the America East Co-Rookie of the Year, exploded onto the scene in her first season with the Retrievers. The Cosby, Va., native posted UMBC top-10 single season marks in slugging percentage (.627, fourth), on-base percentage (.429, fifth) and batting average (.367, sixth). Hall earned America East All-Conference First Team honors, in addition to being named to the All-Rookie squad, after leading the league in doubles (15) and ranking fifth in batting average (.367).
