America East Releases the 2012-13 Women’s Basketball Schedule
8/28/2012
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The America East has announced the 2012-13 women’s basketball conference schedule, with each team set for a 16-game slate, a home and away contest against each of the eight other teams in the league.
Following the Saint Joseph’s Tournament on Dec. 28 and Dec. 29, UMBC will open its America East campaign with back-to-back home games inside the RAC Arena. The Retrievers will host the defending league champion Albany on Wednesday, Jan. 2, followed by Maine on Saturday, Jan. 5.
UMBC hits the road for three straight games before taking a Saturday off in mid-January (Jan. 19). The Retrievers travel to New Hampshire to take on the Wildcats on Jan. 9, before heading to Vermont where the UMBC men and women’s teams will play a doubleheader on Jan. 12 – one of two doubleheaders for UMBC during league play. The black and gold conclude their road trip when they travel to Connecticut, to battle Hartford (Jan.16).
A doubleheader against Stony Brook (Jan. 23), followed by matchups against Boston (Jan. 26) and Binghamton (Jan. 30), mark three consecutive home contests to conclude the month of January for the Retrievers.
February opens at Maine (Feb. 2) and Albany (Feb. 6), before returning to the RAC versus Vermont and New Hampshire on Feb. 9 and Feb. 13, respectively.
The Retrievers wrap up the regular season on the road in three of their final four games. UMBC heads to Stony Brook (Feb. 20), before making the trip to Boston on Feb. 23. On the final week of the year, UMBC hosts Hartford (Feb. 27) and voyages to Binghamton in the 2012-13 regular season finale.
The 2013 America East Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championship quarterfinal and semifinal round action will take place March 8-10. For the first time, the combined tournament will head to University at Albany’s SEFCU Arena.
