Men's Basketball Hosts Coppin State on Tuesday in First Meeting With Eagles Since 1999

11/23/2009

  • Coppin State at UMBC, '09

For the first time in ten seasons, local rivals UMBC (0-3) and Coppin State (3-1) will get together in men’s basketball. The game will be televised by MASN with Jason Knapp and former NBA standout Kevin Grevey on the call. Gary Stein and Paul Mittermeier are at the microphones for the Fox 1370 broadcast (www.fox1370.com) and video streaming is available at www.umbcretrievers.tv

RETRIEVER UPDATE: George Washington buried 9-of-13 shots from behind the arc in a 59-point first half and cruised past visiting UMBC, 94-51, at the Smith Center on Saturday. UMBC’s posts continued to struggle with foul trouble, as GW outrebounded some make-shift UMBC lineups, 57-27. Freshman Shawn Grant led UMBC with 14 points off the bench.

EAGLE UPDATE: Coppin State has opened with three wins in four outings, defeating Lincoln (Pa.), 76-69, West Virginia Tech (63-52) and Washington Adventist (72-61) at home and falling at Colorado, 82-58. Sophomore guard Lenny Young leads three Eagles in double figures at 14.7 points per game.

UP NEXT: UMBC faces its first of two four-game road swings of the season, beginning on Saturday when they travel to James Madison. After tonight’s game, The Retrievers play once (Dec. 12 vs. Rider) at home until Jan. 6, 2010.
