Men's Basketball Takes to Road to Face George Washington in Saturday Matinee

11/20/2009

  • UMBC at Geo. Washington (11-21-09)

UMBC plays its first road contest of the year and George Washington opens its home schedule as the Retrievers (0-2) and Colonials (2-0) play a Saturday matinee (2:00 p.m.) at the Smith Center. This will be the fourth consecutive year that these two teams have met. The Colonials won, 70-64, on Thanksgiving Eve last season and tied the all-time series at three apiece. Paul Mittermeier has the call of the game, beginning with the pregame show at 1:55 p.m. on Fox 1370 Sports Radio (www.fox1370.com).

RETRIEVER UPDATE: UMBC rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit and led by a point with less than two minutes remaining, but dropped a 69-66 decision to Loyola on Nov. 18 at the RAC Arena. Sophomore wing Chauncey Gilliam sparked the Retrievers with 22 points as he and freshman wing Shawn Grant (11 points) each hit three of four shots from behind the arc.

COLONIAL UPDATE: George Washington has been impressive with road wins at UNC-Wilmington (76-71) and UMBC America East rival Boston University (69-59) in the early going. Freshman wing Lasan Kromah led the GW attack with 17 points against the Terriers. Sophomore wing Aaron Ware (13.0 ppg) has been in double figures in both contests.

UP NEXT: The Retrievers return home on Tuesday, Nov. 24 when they entertain Coppin State at the RAC Arena. The game will be televised by the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network with Jason Knapp and Kevin Grevey on the call.
