UMBC Athlete of the Week: Pete Caringi III, Men’s Soccer

Pete Caringi III scored a pair of crucial goals to lead the Retrievers to two come-from-behind victories last week and was named the America East Rookie of the Week for his efforts. The freshman forward scored in the 85th minute of UMBC’s 2-1 win over La Salle on Wednesday to force overtime, then led his team back from a 2-0 halftime deficit against Mount St. Mary’s on Saturday by scoring the third of three second-half goals. The game winner, which came in the 78th minute, sealed a 3-2 win. Caringi, who was also named America East Rookie of the Week on Sept. 7, has four goals in just 207 minutes this season, and he ranks second in the conference in goals per game (0.67) and third in points per contest (1.50).
