Athlete of the Week: Katie Ferguson, Softball

Katie Ferguson was outstanding in leading the Retrievers to a 5-0 week. She batted .444 (8-for-18) with a double, four RBI and five runs scored, and she also stole four bases. In addition, the North East, Md., native posted a 2-0 record with a 1.62 ERA in 8.2 innings of work on the mound, and she handled 30 chances without committing an error. Ferguson went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs scored and two steals in UMBC’s 12-11 eight-inning victory over Morgan State on Friday, and she also earned the win in the game. She also went 3-for-5 in UMBC’s 9-8 10-inning win over Brown on Sunday, and she earned the victory in that game, as well, taking a one-hitter into the seventh inning. The first baseman/pitcher was named to the UMBC Spring Classic All-Tournament Team for her efforts over the weekend.
