UMBC Athlete of the Week: Erin Brown, Women’s Basketball

Junior Erin Brown led the Retrievers with 14.5 points per game in a pair of contests last week, shooting 42.3 percent (11-for-26) from the floor. She also pulled down 3.5 rebounds per game and added three assists and a steal while playing all but two possible minutes. The forward from Bethesda, Md., scored 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting and added five rebounds in UMBC’s 56-48 victory over Towson on Tuesday, then scored a team-best 14 points and matched her career high with four 3-pointers against No. 23 Maryland on Friday. All 14 of her points against the Terps came in the second half, including eight in the first seven minutes. Brown has been the Retrievers’ most consistent player this season, reaching double figures in nine of 10 games on the year, and she is the America East’s fifth-leading scorer at 12.8 points per game. Brown is also UMBC’s top rebounder, averaging 5.3 boards per outing.
